Budabot3.5_GA

Postby Tyrence » Sat Oct 07, 2017 5:42 pm

This is the General Availability release of Budabot 3.5. This release contains bug fixes and updates. We recommend that all users upgrade to this newest version.

If I could get someone to cross-post this on the official forums, that would be great. Thanks!

Since I don't play anymore, sometimes it's hard for me to know which commands and data in the bot are still valuable and which are outdated. If you could take some time to go through the !guides list and tell me which ones are no longer useful, I would appreciate that.

Also, just a quick reminder about some of the newer commands in Budabot that may not be well known:
!perks - allows you to see what buffs you can get from perks based on level and profession
!implantdesigner - basically Nano Nanny in the bot
!ladder - shows steps for laddering implants to buff an ability or treatment
!reputation - a better !kos that allows for both positive and negative ranking

A note about !whatbuffs: There are now !whatbuffs1 and !whatbuffs2 commands. !whatbuffs1 is the version in 3.4 which uses data from auno.org. !whatbuffs2 is a rewrite of that command using aoitems.com data. I would like feedback on which version you think is better. By default there is an alias for !whatbuffs that points to !whatbuffs2, so just using the normal command will show the new data from aoitems.com. If you want to change the alias, see the help: !help whatbuffs.

I opted to leave the IRC_MODULE in for this release.

Also, I don't anticipate releasing another version of Budabot, but if I do, I intend to move away from semantic versioning. And because the Budabot development and release process is a lot more mature now than when I started on the project, I will probably move away from RC releases as well. So instead of Budabot 3.6_RC1, Budabot 3.6_RC2, and Budabot 3.6_GA, it would be Budabot 4, Budabot 5, Budabot 6 and every release would be considered a GA release. This will reflect the fact that we have never really followed semantic versioning, and will also make it less confusing for people who are not familiar with the terms Release Candidate and General Availability and what they mean.

Downloading the new version
You can find Budabot downloads here: https://github.com/Budabot/Budabot/releases

Note that GA versions will be marked with a green "Latest Release" tag while RC versions will be marked with an orange "Pre-release" tag.

Although this version has gone through lots of testing it is possible that there are still some bugs in the bot--if you happen to find any bugs or if you have any suggestions or improvements for the bot, please post on the Budabot forums so that we may help you and so that we may fix the problem for others.

Upgrading from a previous version
To upgrade from 3.4_GA, 3.5_RC1, or 3.5_RC2, copy the database (/data/budabot.db) to the new bot before starting it. The config file format has not changed since 3.2_GA so you can copy it (/conf/config.php) from your current bot to the new bot (before starting it for the first time), or you can go through the setup wizard if you prefer.

If you use MySQL instead of SQLite, instead of copying /data/budabot.db you will just configure the new bot to use the same MySQL database as your current bot. If you go don't copy the config file and opt to go through the setup wizard instead, choose "yes" when it asks if you if you want to setup the database manually, and then choose the options for your MySQL server.

We always recommend making a backup of your current bot (especially the database) before upgrading. We put forth a lot of effort to ensure that the upgrades happen without data loss. However, we would like to emphasize the importance of making backups before major upgrades such as this. You ignore this suggestion at your own risk.

If you are running a version of Budabot before 3.4_GA (this includes any 3.4_RC* versions), you should follow the instructions for upgrading to 3.4_GA first before you upgrade to 3.5_GA.

If you follow these instructions, all settings, guests, admins, alts, quotes, news, etc. should be automatically imported into the new bot.

Changes (since 3.4_GA):
-updated !whatbuffs to use data from aoitems.com
-updated itemsdb to 18.08.24
-changed from !addadmin, !remadmin, !addmod, !remmod to !admin add, !admin rem, !mod add, !mod rem
-!aimshot should now work again
-setting 'http_timeout' default value changed from 5s to 10s
-removed WEBUI_MODULE, HTTP_SERVER_MODULE, and VENTRILO_MODULE
-command aliases now show in !help output
-!nl is now a default alias for !nanolines
-fixes for running Budabot with PHP 7
-added setting 'num_news_shown' to control number of news items shown
-added setting 'num_events_shown' to control number of events shown
-renamed many core methods from snake-case to camel-case (this may break any 3rd party modules you have installed, but they should be easy to fix)
-dependencies now managed by composer
-fixed issue with caching lookup results
-removed !feedback due to low usage
-updated NANO_MODULE (thanks Saavick and Lucier)
-various bug fixes and code cleanups
-updated !whereis
-updated !implantdesigner
-fix for !penalty (thanks equi)
-!light is now a default alias for !guides light
-updated !boss and !bossloot with Abandoned Hope loot (thanks Nadyita)
-updated !about
-minimum cluster QL in !implant should now be more correct (thanks MDK)
